Washington (VNA) – The United States and Viet Nam agreed to further deepen bilateral trade and investment relations at a ministerial dialogue early this week, said an official from the US Trade Representative Office.
In the area of agricultural trade, the two sides will continue their efforts to facilitate market access for key products such as poultry and beef for the United States and tropical fruits for Viet Nam, Stepen J. Norton said, adding that they discussed coordination to ensure a smooth transition as Viet Nam liberalizes its service sectors in line with its WTO commitments.
The two sides also agreed to cooperate on ways to enhance US capacity building assistance to Viet Nam for trade-related reforms and to seek greater participation from the respective private sectors in the trade dialogue, Stepen J. Norton said.
The United States and Viet Nam agreed to meet quarterly under the TIFA to assess progress on joint work already underway, discuss ways to address new issues as they arise, and to consider new initiatives, he added.
The First Ministerial-level TIFA Council meeting between Viet Nam and the United States took place on December 17, with the participation of Minister-Chairman of Viet Nam’s Office of Government Nguyen Xuan Phuc and United States Trade Representative Susan C. Schwab.
“It is clear that the US and Viet Nam share the goal of continuing to strengthen the trade and investment relationship between the two countries,” USTR Assistant Press Secretary Stepen J. Norton said on the sidelines of the First Ministerial-level US-Viet Nam Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council meeting held in US.-Enditem
