Ha Noi (VNA) – Strengthening inspection in corruption prevention and control is a pivotal task of the sector in 2008, said Deputy Chief of the Government Inspectorate Mai Quoc Binh.
Talking with the press in Ha Noi on December 26, Binh added that inspection work will be particularly focused on “hot” issues such as land usage and management, project management and implementation and equitisation of enterprises.
To improve the efficiency of inspection work in 2008, government inspectors are allowed to conduct inspection and choose appropriate units for each inspection field without waiting for direction from the government.
In 2007, the Government inspectors conducted 27 inspections and of which 13 were finalised, uncovering violations that cost the country more than 596 billion VND and close to 1.15 million USD.
The Government Inspectorate has proposed the Government punish violations causing huge loss to the State budget after finalising inspection over the Phu My steel plant in the central coastal province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau , the Nam Mang Thit irrigation project invested by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and an automobile manufacturing plant in central Thanh Hoa province.-Enditem
