Administrative reform gets 3 mil. EUR from Belgium

21/01/2008 -- 4:48 PM

Ha Noi (VNA) – Belgium will provide 3 million euros in non-refundable aid to Viet Nam ’s project to enhance the administrative reform in plan devising work at the of central and local levels.

Belgian Ambassador to Viet Nam Hubert Cooreman handed over the Belgian side’s concrete agreement to the effect to Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Cao Viet Sinh in Ha Noi on Jan. 21.

The collaboration affirms the Vietnamese and Belgian Governments’ wish to expand bilateral cooperation to promote economic growth through hunger eradication and poverty reduction and sustainable development, said Cao Viet Sinh.

The 3.3 million EUR project will be jointly carried out by the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MoPI) and the Belgian Technical Cooperation (BTC) from now until 2012.

The project will provide a system to collect information and data on the nation’s planning analysis, assessment and supervision work.

It is designed to help Viet Nam in building a legal framework on plan devising work, improve local officials’ capability and raise the central authorities’ supportive ability for development activities at the local level.

Once completed in 2012, the quality of plan devising work and the supervision of the implementation of plans are expected to be considerably improved, thus contributing to sustainable socio-economic development and poverty reduction in the country.-Enditem
