HCM City (VNA) – All flights to Viet Nam have been so far fully booked by overseas Vietnamese returning the fatherland for the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) festival, according to Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat Airport border gate police.
The number of Vietnamese returners for Tet, mainly overseas Vietnamese from the US, France, Canada and Australia, and guest workers, surged 40 percent over the last year.
These days, as the Tet festival is approaching, about 10,000 arrivals were recorded every day at the Tan Son Nhat Airport, most by overseas Vietnamese.
The number of passengers checking in or out at the airport increased 15 percent over the last week, with some 19,000-20,000 passengers per day on average.
It is estimated that on the last days of the year of the Pig, from the 25th - 30th days (February 1-6), the Tan Son Nhat Airport will have to receive about 22,000-23,000 passengers.
The number of Chinese Vietnamese leaving Viet Nam for China for Tet has also been increasing on more direct flights between Ho Chi Minh City and China.
The city’s Saigontourist company said over 7,000 holiday makers have booked for its Tet tours, with 2,300 people buying abroad tours.
The Vietravel company also attracted 7,300 tourists, with more than a half of them going abroad.
In total, over 10,000 tourists have booked for Tet tours abroad held by the travel agencies in Ho Chi Minh City, a year-on-year increase of 15 percent.-Enditem
