Ha Noi (VNA) – Close to 600 overseas Vietnamese and Vietnamese students in France gathered at a meeting in Toulouse on February 2 to celebrate the upcoming traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) festival, which will fall on February 6-10.
Addressing the get-together, Mayor of Toulouse Jean-Luc Moudenc spoke highly of the relations and effective cooperation between Toulouse and Ha Noi.
He expressed his hope that overseas Vietnamese in Toulouse will actively boost the friendship and cooperation between French and Vietnamese people.
Vietnamese Ambassador to France Le Kinh Tai said he hoped that overseas Vietnamese in France will continue to uphold their solidarity and contribute to the national construction as well as enhance the friendship between the two nations.
On the same day, the Vietnamese delegation to the United Nations hosted a get-together in New York for overseas Vietnamese and Vietnamese students in the US on the occasion of the Lunar New Year.
Speaking at the function, Ambassador Le Luong Minh, Head of the Vietnamese delegation to the United Nations, sent best New Year wishes to overseas Vietnamese and affirmed that the Vietnamese community abroad is an integral part of the nation.
Also on the day, the Vietnamese Embassy in Berlin organised a meeting to welcome the nation’s biggest traditional festival in the presence of local officials, representatives from the Germany-Viet Nam Association, and the Vietnamese community in Germany .
Ambassador Tran Duc Mau took the occasion to express thanks to German people of different generations for their support to Viet Nam during the country’s struggle for liberation in the past and current national construction and development.
Meanwhile, Vietnamese nationals in South Africa joined the Vietnamese Embassy’s staff in Pretoria on February 2 to celebrate the traditional New Year festival.-Enditem
