Da Nang (VNA) - Since becoming a centrally governed city 10 years ago, central Da Nang city has emerged as a model in infrastructure development to attract investment.
Da Nang port, one of the country’s three largest ports, has been upgraded with fundings from the Japanese government to receive 45,000 DWT ships. The Da Nang international airport is also being enlarged and upgraded in order to host 4 million visitors per year.
The city has built five economic zones with standardised infrastructure facilities covering a total area of 1,400 ha, coupling with a convenient transport system and service and trade centres capable of meeting investors’ demands.
Da Nang is rated among the nation’s top investment destinations for three consecutive years. In 2007, the city placed second in provincial competitiveness index (PCI) rankings.
At present, more than 6,600 enterprises of all economic sectors are operating in the city.
Over 40 state-owned commercial, commercial joint stock and joint-venture banks and financial companies have opened their branches and offices here.
The city has so far attracted over 1 billion USD in foreign investment with 100 currently valid projects from 21 countries and territories. Noteworthy are a 200 million USD trade, office, hi-rise apartment building and international school complex and a 150 million USD sea resort and golf course complex by Vina Capital and a 60 million USD hi-end resort by Indochina Land Holding.
According to the Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman Tran Van Minh, the city is calling for investment in a sea services zone, a sports complex, and a health care centre for low-income earners.
Da Nang is planning to develop information technology as the city’s key economic sector and make full use of its geographical advantages to boost tourism.
Situated in the country’s central region, Da Nang is not only a bridge connecting Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, but also the easternmost gateway to the East-West economic corridor, which links Viet Nam, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar. The city is also a destination on the “World Heritage Itinerary” tour.-Enditem
