Ha Noi (VNA) – A growing number of young people studying overseas plan to seek a career back home, which is good news for domestic companies and major economic groups in the face of a shortage of high-quality human resources in Viet Nam.
According to a survey conducted by SHD Trade and Employment Consultancy Company, about 88 percent of Vietnamese students studying abroad intend to return to Viet Nam for work after they graduate.
Dang Kim Dung, a Vietnamese student in Singapore , said there are many opportunities in Viet Nam for those retuning form abroad because many foreign companies invest in the country. Many students want to find a good job and live near their families, she said.
According to Nguyen Phi Dung, SHD director and president of the association of former Vietnamese students in Australia , the labour market now can meet only 40 percent of the demand for skilled workers.
For the part of employers, most major companies such as Dutch Lady Viet Nam, British American Tobacco, Holcim Viet Nam have already taken note of the potential source of Vietnamese students studying abroad.
Bui Thi Xuan Nhu, head of the personnel bureau of Dutch Lady Viet Nam, said that this year, the company has a programme to train high-level managers, with priorities given to those who received training overseas.
However, both the students and employers complained about the shortage of official information about the Vietnamese labour market.
Over 92 percent of Vietnamese students overseas said they lack update on the Vietnamese labour market and situation of companies in Viet Nam . Most of them get information about Viet Nam ’s labour market through personal relations.
The number of Vietnamese students going abroad for study is on the rise every year. According to the British Council, 1,700 Vietnamese students got entry visas to Britain to attend pre-university, university and post-graduate training courses in 2007, a 24 percent increase over the previous year.-Enditem
