Viet Nam, Taiwan stock exchanges ink deal

04/03/2008 -- 10:12 PM

HCM City (VNA) – The Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HoSE) and Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation (TSEC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Ho Chi Minh City on March 4.

Under the agreement, the two stock exchanges will work together to develop research projects and hold joint conferences.

They will also cooperate in technical assistance, providing training and cross-border trading and listing.

HoSE General Director Tran Dac Sinh said he believed that the cooperation deal will benefit both HoSE and TSEC and open up new opportunities for future collaboration.

According to TSEC President Rong-I Wu, the MOU will help the two stock exchanges share information more easily.

At present, Viet Nam’s stock market capitalisation is around 22 billion USD, representing 37 percent of GDP. Vietnamese government has approved a plan to develop Viet Nam’s capital market up to 2010 and a vision to 2020, which target a capitalisation rate of 50 percent of GDP in 2010 and 70 percent in 2020.-Enditem
