Denmark helps Vietnam in administrative reform

27/03/2008 -- 5:03 PM

Hanoi (VNA) – ActionAid Vietnam on March 27 launched a project to facilitate community participation in monitoring administrative reform.

The three-year project will be carried out in five districts of the northern Lai Chau and Dien Bien provinces, central Ha Tinh province and the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak .
The 1-million-USD project, called “Working out a framework for monitoring administrative reform with the participation of people,” is funded by the Danish Government.

According to ActionAid Vietnam Country Director Phan Van Ngoc, the main participants of the project are grassroots level community members and officials.

The project is expected to increase community awareness of their rights to access information and to improve grassroots People’s Council members’ capacity in monitoring budget and spending in their localities, Ngoc told the launch ceremony.

He also said information systems will be established to provide information, including ethnic language options, to local residents to help them understand the functions of key positions in local administrations, making it easier for them to access while dealing with administrative procedures.

The project co-ordinator, Ta Van Tuan, said ActionAid Vietnam expects the project will help efficiently monitor the on-going administrative reform in Vietnam and enable them to put forward appropriate measures to increase the efficiency of the process.

Partners from the five districts of the project localities will participate in a training course held by ActionAid from March 27-31.-Enditem
