Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has highlighted the progress in the fight against corruption and urged relevant agencies to ensure accuracy and objectivity in investigation, prosecution as well as in trial.
Addressing the sixth session of the Anti-Corruption Central Steering Committee held in Hanoi on April 1, PM Dung stressed that judicial bodies must ensure their independent role in accordance with the law and take responsibility for their decisions before the law.
He affirmed that the Government will continue reviewing and completing management regulations for public assets, land use biddings and budget collection and expenditure.
PM Dung also took the opportunity to praise the media for their role in fighting corruption, while stressing that truthful and impartial reporting will help create consensus in the whole political system and society as a whole in preventing and dealing with corruption.
The Anti-Corruption Central Steering Committee reported that 674 inspections were conducted in 41 out of 64 provinces and cities, detecting misappropriations of 54.3 billion VND in the first quarter of the year. The inspectors uncovered 26 corruption cases involving 58 people in 20 provinces and cities, causing 40 billion VND in economic losses.-Enditem
