Hanoi (VNA) – Ly Tuong Tuan, a Vietnamese resident in the Republic of Korea (RoK), has been named as one of the top 48 philanthropists in Asia by US-based Forbes magazine.
The selection recognises Tuan’s contributions to charities in Vietnam , according to the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs.
A 36 th generation descendant of Vietnamese King Ly Thai To, Tuan, known as Ly Sang Joon in the RoK, who is also President of the RoK-based Golden Bridge Group, donated 2.6 million USD to help set up the RoK-Vietnam Cultural Fund last year.
The fund grants scholarships to Vietnamese students and help improve the living conditions of poor Vietnamese.
Aside from charity activities, Tuan has sought business opportunities in Vietnam . In September 2006, the Golden Bridge Group opened a representative office in Vietnam with a capital of more than 1 million USD.
Tuan said he hoped to make use of his operation experience in various sectors, including finance, infrastructure construction and investment and real estate to contribute to the development of the country.-Enditem
