Administrative punishment suggested for transport official

11/04/2008 -- 9:45 PM

Hanoi (VNA) – The Supreme People’s Procuracy has asked the Ministry of Transport and Communications to impose administrative punishment on a former transport vice minister.

The written request was made against Nguyen Viet Tien, former deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, for his “negligence of duties, causing serious consequences”.

Earlier, in Decision No. 13/VKSTC-V1A, the Procuracy rejected charges of “intentionally violating state regulations on economic management, causing serious consequences” and “abusing position and power while executing duties”, that had been filed against Tien.

It also exempted Nguyen Viet Tien from criminal responsibility on charge of “negligence of duties, causing serious consequences”.

The former transport deputy minister was arrested on April 4, 2006 for allegation of involvement in the corruption scandal at the Project Management Unit 18 (PMU 18). He was released on bail last October.-Enditem
